She was the daughter of Marguerita Lulburn FitzSimons was a talented contralto. His father, Charles FitzSimons, managed a business in Dublin as well as owned a part of the renowned Irish soccer team "The Shamrock Rovers." Maureen did well as a sporty woman and played rough, athletic sports when she was a young. Her naturally-born interest with her ability in performing was astonishing. That was apparent when she won every Feis for theatre and drama that Ireland had to provide. At the age of 14, she was invited into the world-renowned Abbey Theater and pursued her goal of performing in classical theatre and operatic singing.
